Wrap-up: cooperation between “YFA” NGO and “WATER POLO FEDERATION OF ARMENIA”

The annual Henrik Hakobyan Water Polo Memorial Tournament has come to an end. It took place at “Hills Sports Complex” from June 17-24; the winner in the final round of the tournament became the “Armada” team from Yerevan. A total of eight teams participated in this year’s Water Polo championship. It is noteworthy that for the first time in Armenian Water Polo history, a newly formed team of girls participated in the tournament.

Through the efforts of the “You For Armenia” charitable non-governmental organization, and in accordance with the memorandum signed with the Water Polo Federation of Armenia, the H. Hakobyan Memorial tournament is set to be an annual event. Remaining faithful to its mission, the organization expressed readiness to help keep the memory of the fallen heroes of the war alive who sacrificed their lives for the homeland, and to promote the development of Water Polo in Armenia.

Throughout the tournament, the participating teams were competing to keep the memory of H. Hakobyan, a member of the Water Polo team, alive. Despite his young age, he stood out with many achievements ․ He was the captain of the Armenian Water Polo team, having become a champion. He was involved in many activities: chess, windsurfing, he was a member of the “Yerevan Sailing Club”, worked with his father Hamik since the age of 16 as a coach at the Hills Sports Complex. Henrik greatly emphasized the role of education, and after being discharged from the army, he was to continue his studies at YSU Department of Economics. Henrik was drafted into the Armed Forces of the Republic of Armenia on August 13, 2020. He and his friends were martyred, becoming heroes, leaving invaluable works, good reputation and dreams, for the freedom of the homeland.
